BIOGRAPHY

Chris Dawson is a registered patent attorney with over a decade of experience in patent preparation and prosecution, intellectual property litigation, and technology transactions. Currently, his practice focuses on drafting complex patent applications in the electrical, mechanical, and business method arts. In this role, Chris helps build the patent portfolios of some of the world’s most innovative companies. He has extensive experience drafting patent applications directed to computer software, telecommunications, power generation and alternative energy, aerospace, LED and lighting, consumer electronics, and many other technologies.

Prior to joining Harrity & Harrity, Chris was a partner in a Midwest-based intellectual property boutique firm, where he represented clients through all phases of intellectual property procurement and enforcement. In addition to preparing and prosecuting patent applications, Chris litigated patent and trademark infringement actions, appearing before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, federal district courts, and the U.S. Courts of Appeals. Prior to that, Chris had the honor to serve as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Nancy L. Moritz on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit as well as an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of one of the largest intellectual property boutique firms in the United States. Prior to law school, Chris served in the technology transfer office of a major research university, where he licensed the university’s patent portfolio and helped form technology-backed startup companies.

Chris has been recognized for his expertise in intellectual property law by being named to the Super Lawyers Missouri & Kansas Rising Stars list four years in a row, a distinction awarded to only 2.5% of practicing attorneys. Additionally, he is the past recipient of the Intellectual Property Section of the Virginia State Bar Award and the Peter D. Rosenberg Award in Patent and Intellectual Property Law.
