Nelson Nolte

Counsel

Nelson Nolte currently serves as Counsel at Harrity & Harrity, with more than twenty years of experience in intellectual property law. His practice has included patent preparation and prosecution, opinion matters, trademark preparation and prosecution, copyright protection, and IP litigation. With a technical background in electrical engineering, Nelson has drafted and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications across the electrical, software, and mechanical arts, giving him a broad perspective on both the legal and technical issues that shape high-quality patent work relevant to our innovation-forward clients.

At Harrity, Nelson plays an especially important role as a second-attorney reviewer, providing a critical final layer of quality control before work product is delivered to clients. Using his depth of experience and attention for detail, Nelson reviews applications and responses with a careful consideration toward specification of claims, clarity, grammar, antecedent basis, technical accuracy, consistency of terminology, invention distinction, and overall defensibility. This combination of prosecution expertise and meticulous review helps ensure that each submission is not only polished, but also strategically sound and aligned with the high standards our clients expect.

Before joining Harrity in 2020, Nelson built a diverse IP career through private practice, firm leadership, and in-house counsel positions. He also has experience handling patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret litigation in the federal courts, appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and actions before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. His knowledge across prosecution, litigation, and client counseling allows him to evaluate work product with both technical depth and practical judgment.
