Paul Harrity is a patent attorney with considerable experience in client counseling and preparing and prosecuting patent applications. Paul started his career in patent law in 1991 as a Patent Examiner with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Since leaving the Patent Office in 1995, he has prepared hundreds of patent applications and thousands of Patent Office responses. He has considerable experience in the areas of computer hardware and software systems, telecommunications systems and methods, business methods, Internet hardware and software systems, and optical systems.
In addition to patent preparation and prosecution experience, Paul has analyzed clients’ patent portfolios to identify infringers of their patents, and has drafted claims to read on competitors’ products. He also successfully purchased a patent portfolio, for a firm client, at a patent auction.
Prior to founding Harrity & Harrity, LLP in 1999, Paul worked as a patent agent and later as an associate at the law firm of Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, L.L.P. While at Finnegan, he counseled clients, both domestic and foreign, and specialized in patent prosecution and preparation. While at Finnegan, he spent a year working in-house, on a temporary basis, for one of Finnegan’s clients.
At the Patent Office, Paul examined patent applications in the areas of computer hardware and database systems.
Prior to joining the Patent Office, Paul gained valuable industry experience as a troubleshooter at IBM and a design engineer at General Dynamics.
