BIOGRAPHY

Gregory A. Melnick is a patent attorney with more than twelve years of experience, with a primary focus on drafting complex and high-value U.S. and PCT patent applications for clients in the United States and abroad. He has prepared patent applications across a wide range of technologies, including telecommunications (with emphasis on 5G and 6G systems), computing systems and software, artificial intelligence, machine learning, blockchain, biotechnology, electronics, autonomous vehicles, mechanical systems, and video compression.

In addition to his extensive drafting experience, Gregory is highly skilled in prosecuting patent applications through to allowance, preparing persuasive office action responses, and conducting examiner interviews to resolve complex issues. He also manages patent portfolios from initial filing through continuations and divisionals, and provides strategic counseling through patentability and non-infringement analyses. His intellectual property work further includes trademark and copyright filing, prosecution, and enforcement, as well as managing opposition and cancellation proceedings.

Before joining Harrity & Harrity, Gregory served as a patent attorney with Flaster Greenberg P.C., where he focused on advanced telecommunications technologies including 5G and 6G systems. Previously, he spent more than a decade with Tutunjian & Bitetto, P.C., serving as primary counsel for numerous U.S. and PCT patent portfolios in diverse industries. He also brings significant non-legal technical experience in information technology, having worked as a network administrator, database manager, and IT service delivery manager—leading technical teams, negotiating service level agreements, managing multi-state service operations, and maintaining complex hardware, software, and network systems.

Gregory earned his J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law (2012), where he served as Articles and Notes Editor for the American Bankruptcy Institute Law Review and was a member of the Intellectual Property Law Society. He also holds a B.S. in Computer Science from St. John’s University (2003). He is admitted to the New York State Bar and registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Gregory currently resides in Garden City, New York. Outside of work, he enjoys exploring new technologies, outdoor adventures with his wife and three young children, tennis, skiing, and playing ice hockey (poorly) with his hockey-obsessed nine-year-old son—while hoping his son doesn’t steal the puck mid-slapshot which usually ends with Gregory falling to the ice.
