Meggan Duffy is a registered patent attorney with over 20 years of experience preparing and prosecuting domestic and foreign patent applications and managing global patent portfolios. Her practice focuses primarily on protecting emerging technologies through strategic patent prosecution, with an emphasis on electromechanical and mechanical technologies.
Since 2019, Meggan has been recognized by her peers as a “Leading Lawyer,” and Crain’s Chicago Business included her in the 2022 “Notable Women in Law” list. Meggan was also named among the 2023 Influential Women in Business by the Daily Herald Business Ledger and recognized in the 2025, 2026, and 2027 editions of The Best Lawyers in America©.
Before joining Harrity & Harrity, Meggan was a partner at a large boutique law firm in Chicago and chair of both the firm’s Medical Devices Practice Group and 3D Printing Taskforce. In this role, she helped innovators secure and leverage domestic and international patent protection across a broad range of technologies, including mechanical, electromechanical, consumer products, 3D printing, medical devices, and femtech innovations. She also provided opinions and counseling for various clients in these industries. During her tenure at the firm, Meggan was an active member of the firm’s Diversity, Finance, and Recruiting Committees. She also served as a mentor to many attorneys, patent agents, and summer associates as part of the firm’s Mentoring Program.
Earlier in her career, Meggan was an Instructor of Law at DePaul University College of Law for over five years, teaching patent law and several intellectual property-related writing courses. While teaching, she was also actively involved in the law school’s Center for Intellectual Property Law and Information Technology (CIPLIT), serving as Co-Director of its LL.M. in Intellectual Property Law and a member of the CIPLIT Advisory Board.
While in law school, Meggan served as a Legal Writing Teaching Assistant and was a judicial extern for the Honorable Judge James B. Zagel, a U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Illinois. While in college, Meggan served as president of Gamma Epsilon Honors Society and was a student intern at the Shibaura Institute of Technology in Tokyo, Japan.
Outside of her work experience, Meggan served as a Board Member for the Illinois Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA) and the Chicago IP Alliance and is actively involved with Chicago Women in IP. She is a founding member of the Chicago IP Alliance Mentoring Program and recently served as a mentor for the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) law school program. In addition, she was a frequent volunteer with St. Francis Xavier Day School and Parish, including as an Art Smart Parent, a Service Day Coordinator, Volleyball Coach, and Quest Confirmation Parent Leader.
