Steven M. Bouknight is a patent attorney with extensive experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications, particularly in software-related technologies, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cognitive computing, and computer networking. He has drafted and prosecuted numerous patent applications and has worked closely with inventors to identify the novelty of inventions, develop patent strategy, and prepare patent applications directed to complex technical subject matter.

Prior to joining the firm, Steven practiced for nearly 12 years at IBM Corporation, where he served as patent counsel for IBM. During his time at IBM, he also served as a Lead Patent Attorney, managing a team that included multiple patent attorneys and a patent administrative assistant, and reviewed patent drafting, strategy, and prosecution work. He also served in a case management role reviewing patent drafting, strategy, and prosecution work performed by outside counsel.

Steven’s legal and technical background also includes experience as a former Patent Examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, where he examined patent applications in computer networking technologies, including hardware and software cases. Earlier in his career, Steven gained additional intellectual property experience through roles at J.P. Morgan Chase as well as at the law firm of Rosenberg, Klein & Lee, where he performed patent prosecution, prior art analysis, claim chart preparation, technology commercialization research, and patent infringement and validity analysis.

Steven earned his J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law, where he completed the Technology Commercialization Law Program and served on the Syracuse Journal of Science & Technology Law as well as on the Student Body Association as a Class Senator. He also holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Morgan State University.

Steven currently resides in New York with his wife. He also enjoys traveling, watching and playing sports, and going to events and shows.
