Sandra Maxey is an experienced accountant and business administrator with over 25 years of experience in the intellectual property space. As Harrity’s Controller, Sandra effectively manages all firm budgets, finances, compliance, and general accounting infrastructure while overseeing the day-to-day operations of the firm, ensuring the employees and business are outfitted with the appropriate resources to succeed.
Sandra is also an award-winning philanthropist, leading the way to service in the legal community. As the Vice Chair of Harrity’s Charity Committee, Sandra implements charitable initiatives, participates in philanthropic events, garners firm-wide support for various significant causes, and regularly exceeds fundraising goals. She has been recognized for her dedicated work for the American Heart Association, and specifically the Lawyers Have Heart 10k, 5K, and Fun Walk, for which she served as Co-Chair in 2021 and 2020. Sandra is also an avid supporter of ZERO: The End of Prostate Cancer, where she serves on the Board of Directors. She is the recipient of ZERO’s 2019 and 2020 Bold for Blue Top Fundraiser Award.
Sandra’s charitable efforts have extended to a myriad of other non-profit organizations and initiatives, including UNICEF, No More Stolen Childhoods, Inova Children’s Hospital, and The Duffy House. She also spearheaded a Covid-19 Relief program to distribute financial relief to families, food banks, and businesses in need due to the ongoing pandemic. Sandra’s devotion to philanthropy through Harrity 4 Charity, the firm’s giving-back initiative, has resulted in nationwide recognition, including Washington Business Journal’s Corporate Philanthropy Award Small Companies Category in 2019 (first place), 2020 (third place), 2021 (first place) and 2022 (second place).
Prior to joining Harrity & Harrity in 2009, Sandra served as the Accounting Manager at Buchanan, Ingersoll & Rooney, previously spent 10 years as an accountant for Burns, Doane, Swecker & Mathis, LLP, and 3 years at Oblon Spivak as a payroll specialist.
