Jeffrey Tom is an intellectual property attorney with a technical background in computer science and chemical engineering. He has extensive experience preparing and prosecuting U.S. and international patent applications across a broad range of technologies, including software, memory devices, display devices, battery systems, medical devices, and semiconductor technologies.
Prior to joining Harrity & Harrity, Jeffrey practiced as an intellectual property attorney at Lewis Roca LLP in California. His legal work focused on patent preparation and prosecution, patentability and freedom-to-operate opinions, and developing monetization strategies for clients ranging from startups to global corporations. He also served as a software engineering intern at Neudesic, an IBM company, where he developed a generative AI application using Microsoft Azure, OpenAI APIs, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) techniques to streamline legal work.
Jeffrey earned his J.D. from UCLA School of Law, where he served as a staff editor for the Journal of Law and Technology. Earlier in his career, he held engineering roles at TowerJazz and Gehr Industries, where he led process improvements in semiconductor fabrication and materials testing.
Jeffrey currently resides in Southern California with his wife and son. Outside of work, Jeffrey enjoys exploring emerging technologies and the evolving intersection of law and artificial intelligence. In his downtime, Jeffrey is an avid board game enthusiast, personal finance hobbyist, and the designated family vacation planner.
